Sassanian Empire Flag (224–651) - Derafsh Kaviani, ancient Persian war banner with golden sun emblem, royal jewels, and Zoroastrian symbolism.

The Sassanian Empire Flag (224–651) is famously known as the Derafsh Kaviani, a royal war banner symbolizing Persian sovereignty. The flag is described in historical records as featuring a golden, bejeweled emblem with a star or sun symbol at its center, mounted on a purple or leather background with tassels. It was the most important Persian imperial standard, signifying the king’s divine right to rule and Zoroastrian cosmic order. The Derafsh Kaviani was carried into battle and was a symbol of Persian resistance until it was captured and destroyed by the Arab invasion in 651.
