Parthian Empire Flag (247 BCE–224)
The official flag of the Parthian Empire, symbolizing Persian resurgence (247 BCE–224).
The Parthian Empire Flag (247 BCE–224) is believed to have featured a golden or red banner with an image of an archer, representing the Parthian military's cavalry dominance and their famous horse archers. The Parthians, led by the Arsacid Dynasty, successfully resisted Roman expansion and reestablished Persian control after the Seleucid rule. Some historical accounts suggest that the Parthians used dragon-shaped banners (Derafsh), similar to later Sassanian flags, to symbolize power and divine favor. The flag played a crucial role in Persian identity and independence, bridging the cultural gap between the Achaemenid and Sassanian empires.
