Median Empire Flag (678–550 BCE)
The first known flag of Iran, symbolizing the Median Empire’s rule from 678–550 BCE.
The Median Empire Flag (678–550 BCE) is believed to have featured a red background with a golden Faravahar emblem, symbolizing divine protection and leadership in Zoroastrianism. The Medes, an ancient Iranian people, established one of the earliest Persian dynasties, unifying various Iranian tribes. This flag represents the foundation of Persian identity and governance before the Achaemenid conquest. While historical records of the exact Median flag are limited, artistic depictions suggest its influence on later Persian banners.
