Macedonian Empire Flag (330–312 BCE)
The Macedonian Empire flag during Alexander the Great’s conquest of Persia (330–312 BCE).
The Macedonian Empire Flag (330–312 BCE) is often associated with the Vergina Sun (Star of Vergina), a golden sixteen-ray sun on a red or blue background. This emblem was a symbol of the Argead Dynasty, which ruled Macedon under Alexander the Great. After the fall of the Achaemenid Empire, Alexander introduced Hellenistic influences to Persia, blending Greek and Persian traditions. Though there is no definitive "state flag", historical records indicate the sun emblem was widely used in royal insignias and military banners. The short-lived rule of the Macedonians over Persia ended after Alexander’s death, leading to the rise of the Seleucid Empire.
