Abbasid Caliphate Flag (750–1258)
The black banner of the Abbasid Caliphate, featuring a gold emblem (750–1258).
The Abbasid Caliphate Flag (750–1258) is historically known as Al-Raya (The Black Standard). Unlike the simple black flag used earlier, some Abbasid banners featured golden circular emblems, inspired by Islamic coinage and royal seals. This particular design includes an ornate golden pattern with Arabic calligraphy, symbolizing caliphal authority, divine legitimacy, and Islamic governance. The Abbasids overthrew the Umayyads and established Baghdad as their capital, turning Persia into a center for Islamic learning, culture, and governance. The Abbasid flag became a powerful symbol, later influencing the banners of various Islamic dynasties.
